Rolling with the TIDE to Make Great Things Happen!

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year
Dear PGMS Parents, Teachers and Staff,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! My name is Apple Atofau and I am proud to be your PTSA President this year. My son (Tyler) is in 7th grade at PGMS and my daughter (Mialani) is in 1st grade at Robert Down. Since my son was in Kindergarten, I’ve been involved in PTA whether it is by volunteering or donating, but I felt compelled to serve on the PGMS PTSA board in its moment of need.
Our PGMS PTSA is here to support quality education, organize family fun events and provide a nurturing environment for every one of our children at PGMS, even in these trying times. Not only are our volunteers here to support the school and the children in every way, but our school administrators work collaboratively with the PTSA to make great things happen! The PGMS Principal, Sean Roach, attends our meetings and is eager to share relevant information during the meeting directly with you!
This is a challenging year for all of us. We must think of creative ways to make things happen while following the social distance guidelines. We have an amazing group of volunteers on the board that are dedicated to making this year positive, fun, and engaging for your student(s) and with your support, we can make it happen. It takes a village.
To be honest, we are uncertain what events we will be able to host due to COVID-19. We will certainly lose funding from the fundraisers like the Butterfly Bazaar and Mix and Mingle. We are trying to see how we can support our schools. By joining the PTSA, your much needed membership funds will help support the Conduct Club lunches, Honors Breakfast, 6th grade events, 7th grade events, 8th grade events, lunch clubs, classroom supplies for our students, teacher and staff appreciation, and parent support programs. Even though it will look different than last year, we still want to plan and try to make it happen. It is incredibly important for us to have the support of all our parents/guardians, teachers and staff during these unprecedented events.
To be clear, I encourage you to join the PTSA today and your contribution is tax deductible. A common misconception is that joining the PTSA means attending meetings and being bound by additional responsibilities, but you do not have to attend the meetings. You will receive “member” only emails and stay informed with the current information. Since we are not connecting in person, the PTSA is currently the best connection to other parents, teachers, and staff. If you are able, we would love your time volunteering at special events and/or signing up for donations. If that doesn’t work, that’s okay!
We would love if you would join us for our PTSA Membership Meetings- the first one of the school year being held on Wednesday, August 19, at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. A Zoom link will be emailed out as the date gets closer. This is our first Association meeting of the school year, so it may be a little longer than the other meetings, but that's because there is a lot to do at the beginning of the school year. I ask you to join us in collaborating to make this a great year! Remember, we must contribute in order to support our parents, teachers and staff! THANK YOU for your support of our amazing students!
Sincerely,
Apple Atofau, aatofau@pgusd.org
